Batik is Indonesia's Cultural Heritage

Indonesia struggles to gain world recognition, to batik as an Indonesia's indigenous cultural heritage is not in vain. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) will certainly strengthen the tradition of batik as one of the world's cultural heritage native to Indonesia in October in France.

As stated by the Director General of Culture Value, Arts and Film Department of Culture and Tourism, Tjetjep Suparman in Surakarta, Tuesday (2/6). "It took three years for filing," he said. Previously, puppets and dagger also has received similar recognition from UNESCO some time ago.

"The six countries that are representative of UNESCO has conducted an assessment of batik culture," said Tjetjep. After reviewing and verifying past three years, finally there is the recognition of culture as the culture of Indonesia's batik. "Its adoption on 28 September 2009 tomorrow," said Tjetjep. While the inauguration will be conducted on October 2, 2009 in France.

In addition to the current batik government also put forward some of the culture to get the same recognition, such as gamelan and angklung. "Hopefully, the process can run smoothly," he said.

Separately, Chairman of the Society Kampoeng Batik Laweyan Surakarta, Alfa Fabela particularly welcome the recognition. "We just hope the younger generation to help preserve the cultural traditions of batik," said Alfa Fabela.

He also hopes the recognition can make a batik is increasingly recognized. "As a result, exports also increased," says Alfa. Mekipun according to him, this time the focus is still mostly batik producers to work on the domestic market.
